AKIRA’S ANGELS are aiming to raise at least €50,000 to create our very own Dog Park next to the existing Akira kennels, plus a further, very large, secure Zone to Roam.
Why are we doing this?
At the moment, our dogs spend their days in outdoor runs so they get fresh air and sunshine, and their nights in indoor kennels.
On good days, our wonderful team of volunteers ensure that most of our dogs get a decent walk outside of the shelter as well. But when they are on walks, the dogs have to be on the lead at all times, which doesn’t give them the opportunity for free play with people or one another. And the dogs don’t get to run, or play ball or get any kind of recall training, and we want to be able to offer them all of these opportunities.
Phase 1 of our plan: We have a large piece of unused land to the left of the car park which is currently not being used and we want to be able to use this area for the dogs. On this plan, Phase 1 of the project is shown in green and yellow and covers about 1,000 square metres. Click to enlarge the image.
We need to wall and fence the area so that the dogs can have a large place to run and play freely and interact with one another and our staff and volunteers in a completely safe and secure environment. We want to develop the area into separate levels, one where the dogs can run and roam and play freely, and the other that can be used for training and agility-style activities.
Phase 2 of the plan adds another 4,500 square metres of "Zone to Roam" to allow the dogs to run free and exercise in a secure fenced area.
Why AKIRA’s Angels? All our regular fund-raising activities go to pay for the day-to-day costs of running the Shelter. We created AKIRA’s Angels especially for this project (and possibly other improvement projects in future).
We are reaching across the world for crowdfunding – for lots and lots of kind people to become AKIRA’s Angels by contributing to this special project. It’s run by unpaid volunteers, and we guarantee that every euro, every cent, will be spent on the actual costs of creating a wonderful space for the dogs.
